On the 17th of May a small Draw contingent traveled up to the Courtauld Institute of Art in London for the Campaign for Drawing’s annual Drawing Inspiration Awards where certificates of recognition are handed out to artists and institutions from across the globe for innovative and engaging Big Draw events. After a jaunt around the Courtauld’s wonderful collection Chris Orr, RA gave an inspiring talk about his passion for drawing followed by a ceremony where 16 certificates were awarded to groups from around the world.
We won a Drawing Inspiration Award (we were runners up for the main Barbara Whatmore award) for our White Night event ‘Corporeal: A Night of Drawing from the Human Figure’. This isn’t just an award for the huge team of volunteers that helped put the event on but a congratulations to everyone that drew on that night; over 650 people drew until 4am in the morning and it is this vast and continuing participation in our events that makes them so inspiring to run.
The Argus recently ran a piece about how Brighton White Night wont be happening this year. The last three years we have, with the help of Donna Close and White Night, run a free drawing event that pushes boundaries and opens drawing up to everyone, engaging over 2000 people in total. This year will be no exception; whether White Night is going ahead or not we’ll be running another momentous event so keep your eyes peeled for details.
